- Senator Joseph Kennedy Nyikwagh Waku is dead.
Family sources told emmanuelyawe.com that the elder statesman died at the National Hospital in Abuja on Sunday 3rd Feb 2019 evening at about 7.30 pm.
He was elected Senator for the Benue North West constituency of Benue State at the start of the Fourth Republic, running on the People’s Democratic Republic (PDP) platform. He took office on 29 May 1999. After taking his seat in the Senate in June 1999 he was appointed to committees on Senate Services, Works & Housing, Health, Establishment, Water Resources (Chairman) and Privatization.
Before his election into Senate, he was a member of the Benue State House of Assembly in the Second Republic on the ticket of the NPP.
After leaving office, Waku became active in the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), a northern lobbying group and served as its Vice Chairman for some time.
He was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Pro Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology of Akure, a position he held until his death.
